Tasting Menu of La Fenice

Kyra did the "Petite Meat Tasting Menu"

Both menus, and our lunch actually, began with an amuse bouche of a pureed white vegetable soup with cuttlefish. Unfortunately I was too hungry to photo them :)

Primi:

Cuturro rice croquettes with sanago (a Sicilian herb), ricotta and fresh tomato and basil.

Secondi:

Crispy piglet spare ribs wtih wild thyme over fondant potatoes made with Ragusano cheese

Dessert:

Chocolate, bananas and pistachios in a glass

And yes, that's gold on the chocolate ;)

I went with the "Full Meat Tasting Menu" - which was 7 courses. I was rather full ;)

Appetizers:

Beef tartare with a grilled meat aroma, lard made from Black Nebrodi Piglet, mustard ice cream and onion crisp

Crispy cylinder of angel hair pasta with Buffalo mozzarella cream over a liquid salad of Ferrisi beefstake tomatoes and a light Sicilian pesto (yes, I had this for lunch too hehe)

Marinated rabbit fillets duo of Jerusalem artichoke and mushrooms flavoured with Bengal long pepper

Primi:

Mongibello wheat tortello with a beef stew aromatized with Triskele wine and ricotta cheese foam

Secondi:

Modican beef with Ragusan grilled cheese, boiled wheat and raisin patty

Pre-Dessert:

Basil granita over frozen apple, pear and carrot salad

Dessert:

Sweet rice croquettes with Zanfarro ice cream

Finally they finished things off with a plate to share of meringue, almond brittle, apricot cannoli, and some wonderful chocolates that had a local olive oil as their center.

All in all one of the best meals I've ever eaten. If you ever find yourself in Southern Sicily, make the trip!
